Who can apply for a RIPIN Summer Camp Scholarship?

Rhode Island residents who are parents/caregivers of a child or youth with a diagnosed disability or special need can apply. The applicant should also have already applied to an area camp or recreational program.

What can a RIPIN Summer Camp Scholarship be used for?

RIPIN Summer Camp Scholarship funds can be used to pay for costs associated with sending a child or youth with special needs to a summer camp or recreational program. These may include tuition, fees, or costs associated with providing specific accommodations a child needs to participate.

How much is each RIPIN Summer Camp Scholarship award?

Award amounts will vary and will be based on the specific needs cited by the parent/guardian in the application. RIPIN Summer Camp Scholarships are intended to supplement other funds. In most cases, awards will not cover the entire cost of attending a camp or rec program.

How can parents/caregivers apply for a RIPIN Summer Camp Scholarship?

Parents and caregivers of children and youth with special needs can apply online between April 3rd and April 28th. The application is available in both English and Spanish.

Families are encouraged to apply online, however, a paper application is also available. Contact [email protected] or call 401-270-0101 if you are unable to apply online.

What is the deadline to apply for a RIPIN Summer Camp Scholarship?

Applications for 2023 RIPIN Summer Camp Scholarships will close on April 28th.

When will applicants be notified of award decisions?

Whether awarded a scholarship or not, all applicants will be notified of award decisions by Friday, May 26th.

Can a RIPIN Summer Camp Scholarship be combined with other scholarships/grants/financial assistance?

Yes! The financial aid offered by summer camps and recreational programs is often not enough to cover the full cost of a child’s attendance. A RIPIN Summer Camp Scholarship is intended to supplement this and close the gap that will allow a child or youth with special needs to participate.

Will RIPIN Summer Camp Scholarship funds be given directly to the families?

No. Awards will be sent directly to the camp or recreational program.

Will applicants be required to provide information about their income?

No. RIPIN is not requiring applicants to share any information about their income or proof of their income.
